Eagles trade for Jaguars RB Tank Bigsby amid Will Shipley injury

The Philadelphia Eagles have acquired running back Tank Bigsby from the Jacksonville Jaguars, sending back a 2026 fifth- and sixth-round pick in return. The move comes just days after rookie RB Will Shipley suffered a rib injury in the season opener, putting his short-term availability in doubt.

Bigsby, a 2023 third-round pick out of Auburn, brings two years of NFL experience and a power-back profile that complements what the Eagles already have in Saquon Barkley and A.J. Dillon. In 2024, Bigsby ran for 766 yards and seven touchdowns on 168 carries, averaging 4.6 yards per attempt.

His role in Jacksonville had diminished early this season, Travis Etienne commanding a majority of backfield snaps. Fourth round rookie Bhayshul Tuten has shown promise and the Jaguars made Bigsby available for trade earlier in the week. Howie Roseman moved quickly once Shipley’s rib issue was confirmed to be more than a minor bruise.

Bigsby is unlikely to leapfrog Dillon on the depth chart immediately, but he gives the Eagles a downhill runner with proven durability and a special teams presence they were lacking. With Boston Scott and Kenneth Gainwell no longer on the roster, Bigsby’s arrival stabilizes the RB3 responsibilities heading into Week 2.

He’s expected to practice with the team this week. Whether he’s active against the Chiefs will depend on how quickly he picks up the offense and where Shipley stands medically.
