Lane Johnson’s Neck Stinger: Outlook Entering Week 4

Lane Johnson’s availability is a critical subplot to the Eagles’ Week 4 plans. In the first quarter of Philadelphia’s 33–26 comeback win over the Rams, Johnson suffered a neck injury described as a “stinger” during a tush push play. He exited after just 10 snaps and did not return. The initial report flagged him as questionable to return that day.

Climbing back toward readiness

By Wednesday’s injury report ahead of Week 4, Johnson was listed with limited participation in practice. The Eagles acknowledged he plans to play despite the stinger. Importantly, by Thursday he was upgraded to full participation, signaling positive progress in his recovery. Johnson himself expressed confidence. He told reporters after the Rams game he expected to play in Week 4, even while acknowledging the neck issue.

Lane Johnson’s Presence Changes Everything

When Lane Johnson is on the field, the Eagles’ offense looks completely different. He’s the best right tackle of his generation, and one of the most important players on the roster. That’s why his quick return from a neck stinger matters so much heading into Week 4.

The contrast couldn’t be clearer. When Johnson left against the Rams, Matt Pryor stepped in and immediately looked overmatched, allowing pressure that disrupted rhythm and forced the Eagles to change their protections. With Pryor out there, every dropback felt like a gamble. With Johnson, it’s the opposite — stability, confidence, and the freedom to let Jalen Hurts play without constantly looking over his shoulder.

Getting Johnson back to full practice so quickly is a huge plus. The Eagles regain the anchor of their offensive line, the guy who sets the tone physically and mentally. With him on the edge, the run game flows smoother, Hurts has more time, and the playbook can stay wide open.
